Membership

Our members include river enthusiasts from all walks of life. Members can choose a level of involvement. Active members attend monthly meetings and join in list-serve discussions and decision-making. "Supporting" members may choose to receive only annual updates and attend fewer events.

Membership numbers are important and strengthen our voice in decisions that will effect the health of the river for generations to come. The Commission believes that the quality of life in southeast Ohio depends on both economic health and environmental health. The Hocking River valley provides many benefits including wildlife habitat, drinking and agricultural water supplies and opportunities for improving the area's economic health through the promotion of recreational and scenic uses of the river.

The Hocking River should be understood and valued so that development can be planned to be compatible with the river and preserve the benefits it provides to the community.

HRC believes that education is the best way to understand and value the Hocking River.

The most important lesson is that we must be river stewards to protect this vital natural asset. River stewardship is everyone's job: citizens, businesses and government must work together.

Communication, creativity and collaboration are the keys to building links between jobs, communities and the river.
